The French Premier Resigns After Barely Three Weeks Amid Extensive Condemnation of Freshly Appointed Cabinet

France's government instability has worsened after the new prime minister unexpectedly quit within hours of appointing a government.

Swift Resignation Amid Political Turmoil

Sébastien Lecornu was the third premier in a year-long span, as the country continued to move from one government turmoil to another. He stepped down hours before his opening government session on the beginning of the workweek. The president accepted the prime minister's resignation on the beginning of Monday.

Intense Criticism Regarding New Cabinet

France's leader had faced strong opposition from opposition politicians when he announced a new government that was mostly identical since last month's ousting of his preceding leader, the previous prime minister.

The announced cabinet was controlled by Macron's supporters, leaving the cabinet mostly identical.

Opposition Reaction

Political opponents said the prime minister had backtracked on the "profound break" with past politics that he had vowed when he assumed office from the disliked former PM, who was dismissed on September 9th over a suggested financial restrictions.

Future Government Direction

The uncertainty now is whether the national leader will decide to dissolve parliament and call another sudden poll.

Marine Le Pen's political ally, the head of the opposition figure's political movement, said: "It's impossible to have a return to stability without a fresh vote and the parliament's termination."

He added, "It was very clearly Emmanuel Macron who determined this government himself. He has failed to comprehend of the present conditions we are in."

Election Demands

The opposition movement has advocated for another poll, thinking they can increase their seats and influence in parliament.

The nation has gone through a period of instability and parliamentary deadlock since the president called an indecisive sudden poll last year. The parliament remains split between the main groups: the liberal wing, the far right and the moderate faction, with no definitive control.

Budget Deadline

A financial plan for next year must be agreed within a short time, even though parliamentary groups are at loggerheads and Lecornu's tenure ended in barely three weeks.

No-Confidence Motion

Political groups from the progressive side to far right were to hold discussions on Monday to decide whether or not to vote to oust Lecornu in a parliamentary motion, and it appeared that the cabinet would fall before it had even started work. France's leader reportedly decided to resign before he could be dismissed.

Ministerial Positions

Most of the major ministerial positions declared on Sunday night remained the unchanged, including the legal affairs head as justice minister and Rachida Dati as cultural affairs leader.

The position of economy minister, which is crucial as a divided parliament struggles to agree on a financial plan, went to Roland Lescure, a government partner who had earlier worked as business and power head at the commencement of his current leadership period.

Surprise Selection

In a unexpected decision, a longtime Macron ally, a government partner who had worked as economy minister for an extended period of his leadership, returned to government as national security leader. This enraged officials across the political divide, who viewed it as a sign that there would be no challenging or alteration of the president's economic policies.
